Using enthusiasm to counter ignorance, creating career opportunities, and fueling the digital transformation

Spread the love

Today, Friday, December 11, 2020, was the 194th #virtuallunch and Jeff Ward, the Director of the Duke Center on Law & Tech, shared his extraordinary perspective. My key takeaways were: (1) Technology success is attitudinal more than apptitudinal; (2) One can use enthusiasm to make up for ignorance; (3) Law students are excited when they see the possibilities that technology offers to improve the practice of law; (4) We have socio-technical systems that need many talented people to thrive; (5) Young professionals can create career opportunities when they are technologically adept; (6) There is amazing inertia around the billable hour; (7) Client demands are driving technological change, as well as racial and gender equity; and, (8) COVID-19 is fueling the digital transformation of legal departments and law firms. Thank you to Jeff and attendees Debbie Beeler, Monica Sandler, Bernadette Beekman, Stephanie Clerkin, RCA, Molly McDonough, Jeff Schwarz, Scott J.
