The fear of making professional requests, diluting the word ‘sorry,’ and distinguishing between systems and goals

We spent most of our conversation on the #virtuallunch today, Monday, December 14, 2020, discussing the fear of making professional requests and the dilution of the word “sorry.” My key takeaways were: (1) Apologizing is not about weakness; (2) It is appropriate to apologize for the hurt, inconvenience, or consequences you have caused; (3) There is a lack of accountability associated with an apology, which many Indicate that it is not genuine; and, (4) It is critical to distinguish between systems and goals in achieving your objectives. Thanks, as always, to attendees Stephen Embry, Molly McDonough, Gail Ruopp, Jeff Schwarz, Dennis Garcia ⚖, Jay Stromberg, Robin Moselle, Suzanne Schwartz, Bernadette Beekman, Sherine Clarke, Minoo Razavi, Monica Sandler, MCOM, MCT, and Jaimie Field.
