Our #virtuallunch conversation today, Friday, October 2, 2020, featured a lot of nodding, clapping, and smiling thanks to the extraordinary Ralph Baxter, who inspired us with his perspective, encouragement, and vision. My key takeaways were: (1) It is critical for firms to innovate and rethink the practice of law; (2) The lessons we learn from the pandemic about new models of working are critical; (3) When we get back, the competitive pressures will be greater for everyone; (4) Law firms have drifted away from understanding the role law plays in the lives of their clients; (5) You cannot make the necessary changes and bill by the hour; (6) The Utah sandbox has the potential to be a game-changer; (7) Develop mechanisms that are more appealing to and trusted by the client; (8) Law firms need to invest; and, (9) To effectively train new lawyers, you must have a serious program. Thank you, Ralph and Laurence Whittam, Sherine Clarke, Gayle O’Connor, Carol Jackson-Doerge, Gail Ruopp, Scott J.
