What an inspiring masterclass on the legal profession Dr. Larry Richard gave today, Friday, September 25, 2020, on the #virtuallunch. My key takeaways were: (1) The people that go into law are outliers; (2) There are a lot of roles that lawyers need to play that are relationship-focused, which does not necessarily play to their strengths; (3) Millennials have a dramatically lower score in empathy, which is not unique to the legal profession; (4) The need for leadership is greater now than it has ever been; (5) Leaders persuade others to follow them through relationships and empathy is critical; (6) Empathy is critical to getting and retaining clients; (7) Empathy is one of the personality traits you can learn to enhance; and, (8) Law firms are under enormous pressure today to change their business models. Thank you to Larry and attendees Cristin Traylor, Gayle O’Connor, Debbie Beeler, Robin Moselle, Gina Hardin, Laurence Whittam, Sherine Clarke, Jeff Schwarz, Suzanne Schwartz, Vishal Agnihotri, Scott J.
